The invention mainly relates to an understructure with an underframe for a tower crane which is used in a stationary position and in the position of use rests on four supporting bodies with a supporting surface of especially large area. The supporting bodies, remaining on the understructure during road transport, can be quickly put into the operating or transport position without any great effort if the supporting bodies are fastened in a manner known per se to connecting arms which are arranged on end crossmembers of the underframe, the width of which does not exceed the width permissible for road transport, in such a way that they can be pivoted downwards so far that, after swinging down due to the weight, they do not project beyond the width of the underframe.
