Forging installation for open-die rough forging

Forging installation for the open-die rough forging of billet sections and similar forged pieces as feedstock for subsequent drop forging with a hydraulic open-die forging press, a forging manipulator, a forged-piece turning device and a computer. The forging manipulator has a manipulator arm with manipulator tongs. The manipulator tongs can be pivoted with the manipulator arm about a horizontal axis and moved into and out of the open-die forging press with the aid of a driving unit. The computer controls the open-die rough forging in accordance with the length of the blank and with a forging programme. The manipulator tongs have a proximity switch by means of which the position of a forging in the manipulator tongs can be detected upon introduction of the forging. After the turning of the forging, rough-forged on one side, in the forged-piece turning device, a measure of the elongation caused by the rough forging can be input into the computer with the aid of the proximity switch and the driving unit for the manipulator arm.
