High field superconductor, which has superconducting conductor wires (6) bedded into a matrix (4) of normal-conducting material, and equipped with an armouring (10, 11) of a mechanically rigid, non-magnetic NiMo-alloy, which contains between 65 and 75% by weight Ni, between 24 and 32% by weight Mo and in each case below 1.5% by weight Mn, Co, Cr and which has a thermal expansion coefficient at 0 degree C between 8.10**-6 K**-1 and 12.10**-6 K**-1 , whereby the armouring material contains at the most 2.5% by weight of Fe, at the most 0.1% by weight of Si and at the most 0.02% by weight of C.
