In a method and an apparatus for the production of cutting rings with a sintered-carbide cutting edge for cutting away geological formations, in particular for boring with cutter rollers comprising sintered-carbide bodies and supporting bodies made of steel, the sintered-carbide bodies being embedded and fixed in the supporting bodies, the invention envisages that the material used for the supporting body be cast steel with a basic hardness which is sufficient to safeguard the calibre and the sintered-carbide bodies be processed in the raw condition, the sintered-carbide bodies being embedded during the moulding of the supporting bodies by pouring the base material around them and being fixed in such a way, by the differential shrinkage of the sintered-carbide material relative to the cast steel of the supporting body, that the cast skin serves as the calibre safeguard.
