The planting machine head comprises a vertical body (1) having a lower part in which are located movable cavity jaws (3) fitted on opposite sides around a plant lowering position. The jaws have drives (5,6,7) to move them, and are formed as at least two downwardly directed plates. The plates are located in the body to move vertically in their plane between a lowered wedge-shaped plant cell accommodation position and a raised location which is open for lowering of the plant.
