The subject of the invention is apparatuses for steering ships. An apparatus according to the invention comprises two horizontal jacks which are articulated on a horizontal crossbar carried by the main piece of the rudder. Each jack is supported at its middle by a bearing 6 with a spherical pivot. This bearing comprises two spherical half-pivots 71, 72 which are symmetrical relative to their diametrical plane separated by a shim 13 which is adjusted with precision so as to eliminate axial play between the half-pivots and two half-rings 81, 82 with spherical bearing surfaces.
