Treatment of water laden with tarry heavy products originating from the main manifold or tar cleaning tube for the cooling water of a coke oven battery. After separation of this water in a vertical cylinder 1, the lower solid parts or tar waste (DG) is collected by a pair of screw conveyors 2 and 3 mounted in series, where the tar waste DG is dried as granular fractions H which are mixed with coke dust or coal fines Q so as to obtain a granular and dry mixture of tarry coal K recycled towards the coke oven feed. This plant permits an advantageous recovery of products capable of being mixed with the coke paste in the coke ovens, and eliminates the pollution which would result from the dumping of the heavy products from the cooling water on slag heaps.
