New compounds (I) and (II) are photostable laser dyes capable of stimulated emission in the u.v. range below 400 nm in organic solvents when optionally excited. IMAGE wherein all R groups are the same and all R' groups are the same, R being CH3 or OCH3; and R' being CH3, OCH3, tertiary butyl, or F.
