NOVEL ALCOHOL COMPLEX UPTAKING POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, PRODUCTION THEREOF AND PURIFICATION OF POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE

NEW MATERIAL:An alcoholic potassium hydroxide uptaking complex consisting of a =5C alcohol uptaking potassium hydroxide and water. EXAMPLE:A cyclohexanol-based potassium hydroxide uptaking complex consisting of cyclohexanol uptaking potassium hydroxide and water. USE:An intermediate useful for the purification of potassium hydroxide and capable of easily producing high-purity potassium hydroxide on an industrial scale. PREPARATION:The objective alcohol complex uptaking potassium hydroxide can be produced by contacting a =5C alcohol with a concentrated aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide having a concentration of 40-60wt%, especially 45-57wt%. When the complex is added with a proper amount of water and heated at about 40-110 deg.C, it is separated into an alcohol phase and an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide and purified potassium hydroxide can be easily separated from the lower aqueous phase.
