The sandwich structure, e.g. a fan rotor blade, comprises a relatively weak core (2. 1) inside a shell (2) of fibre-reinforced plastics material and has an arrangement whereby tensile forces can be applied thereto consisting of an aperture (4) through the structure accommodating a fastening bolt (5) and a region around the aperture where the core is replaced by a reinforcement (6) of plastics-impregnated fibre fabric, a tension member (10) extending through a bore (11) in the reinforcement without substantial frictional contact therewith, and engaging the fastening bolt (5) to secure the structure to a member (1), e.g. a rotor hub.
