The inner barrel assembly of a pressurized water reactor includes an array of interleaved parallel rod guides affixed to the top plate of the reactor core. A flexible support structure connects the top ends of the rod guides to a lower calandria plate by means of different types of mating, support plates (36), (38) interconnected by flexible linkages (130). Leaf springs are secured to the calandria bottom plate to abut the rod guide top ends so as to permit restrained axial displacement of the individual rod guides.
