METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SULFATING AND ROASTING TAILING PRODUCED BY ZINC LEACHING

PURPOSE:To attain uniform sulfation in a fluidizing furnace for roasting when tailings produced by the zinc leaching are sulfated and roasted, by combinedly using pyrites, coal and gaseous SO2. CONSTITUTION:A slurry contg. tailings produced by the zinc leaching, pyrites and coal is blown into a fluidizing furnace 10 from nozzles 13. The slurry is fluidized with air and gaseous SO2 introduced into the furnace 10 through tuyere 12 and it is roasted by the heat of oxidation of the pyrites and the heat of combustion of the coal. The tailings are sulfated with gaseous SO2 produced by the decomposition of the pyrites and gaseous SO2 fed from the outside of the furnace through a pipe 23 as sulfur sources.
