摘要

PURPOSE:To enhance molecule selective adsorbing capacity, by applying heat- treatment to a silica fiber containing extremely fine pores at 200-500 deg.C not only to reduce the pore size thereof to control a fine pore size but also to enhance the mechanical strength of said silica fiber. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber is prepared from glass wherein SiO2 and alkali oxide such as Na2O are contained as main components and the mol ratio of both of them is 1:1-5:1 and treated with various acids not only to remove the alkali component but also to control the mol ratio of glass to obtain a porous silica glass fiber having extremely fine pores with a desired pore size and molecule selective adsorbing action. This extremely microporous silica fiber is heat-treated at 200-500 deg.C to reduce the pore size thereof so as not only to control the pore size of said fiber but also to enhance the mechanical strength thereof.
