A process for reheating semifinished products which have been cast in a continuous casting installation and are to be brought into further-processing installations. The semifinished-product lengths (HK) are supplied to a store in the direction of their longitudinal axis or transversely to the longitudinal axis and then moved from this store to reheating furnaces according to the requirement of the further-processing installation, and heated therein to the further-processing temperature. Cooled semifinished-product lengths (HK), which are situated in the store, are brought, during their transportation from this store to the further-processing installation, into heat transfer contact with the warm semifinished-product lengths (HW) which are being transported from the continuous casting installation to the store. This heat transfer contact is produced, for example, by the cold semifinished-product lengths (HK) being transported over a supporting grate 2 which is arranged at a distance above a supporting grate 1 over which the warm semifinished-product lengths (HW) are transported in the opposite direction.
