PURPOSE:To lay a mat for construction work with good efficiency even when encountered with the rocking movement of water like waves by using a steel frame to clamp the mat for construction work. CONSTITUTION:A mat 1 for construction work, such as a synthetic fiber mat of nylon, etc., or a vinyl mat mainly based on soft vinyl chloride, is carried to a construction site and spread on a flat place. A steel frame 2 consisting of plural frame pieces 2a is put on the mat 1, and the mat 1 is clamped to the downside of the steel frame 2 by a rope 4 for fitting the mat 1. The steel frame 2 clamped to the mat 1 is lifted up by a crane and put on a given laying place. Afterwards, the rope 4 is removed and only the steel frame 2 is lifted up by the crane again. Plural mats 1 are laid adjacently according to the design of construction, the adjacent edge portions of them are bound with a rope, and weights are temporarily put on the mats 1 and also on the insides of the four corners of the steel frame 2, thereby sufficiently preventing the scouring of the foundation ground by waves, etc.
