PURPOSE:To read/write an information data in common from both tool rests, and also to exchange an information data between both the tool rests by providing a common macro-variable which can be used in common in two tool rests, and providing a common macro-variable storage part which can be used in common, on a numerical controller. CONSTITUTION:An area for storing a macroprogram has the macro-variable storage part H1 for the first tool rest, the macro-variable storage part H2 for the second tool rest, and a common macro-variable storage part H3 which can be used by both the first and the second tool rests. As for a macro-variable which is used by the common macro-variable storage part H3, a macro-variable being different from a macro- variable which is used by the first and the second tool rests is used. For instance, the macro-program is generated by using a macro-variable of three digits and a macro- variable of five digits for the macro-variable which is used exclusively by the first and the second tool rests, and the macro-variable which is used in common, respectively, and a processor decodes these macro-variables, and in case of three digits, read/ write are executed to the macro-variable storage parts of each tool rest, and in case of five digits, read/write are executed to the common macro-variable storage part H3.
