PURPOSE:To make a distinct improvement in wheel dressing accuracy, by numerically controlling movements of an end node at the side of a rhombi-form link part being large in a pantagraph so as to dress the profile of a grinding wheel by means of a dresser at the side of small rhombi-form link. CONSTITUTION:In a numerically controlled surface grinding machine provided with a wheel dressing device which dresses the profile of a grinding wheel, an operating piece at an end node of a pantagraph 7 shifts to a similar form locus being larger five to ten times than a reference wheel form by means of each of motors for both A and B shafts operating upon receiving a numerical command by a dressing control circuit 17a of a numerical control system 17, and with this movement of the operating piece, the end node passes the other end point of the pantagraph 7. A dresser 9 on a C-axis shifts to the loci of 1/5-1/10 of the operating piece and dresses the grinding wheel. With this constitution, wheel dressing can be sharply improved.
