PURPOSE:To permit the easy welding and connecting of single-core optical fibers with a multi-core welding and connecting device by changing the color of only one pair of V grooves with the color of the other V grooves or providing optical fiber guides thereto to make specific said grooves so that a pair of the V grooves facing each other are easily selected from the continuous and fine V grooves. CONSTITUTION:The V-groove bases 1, 1' disposed to face each other are provided with the finely and continuously provided V grooves 2, 2' and a pair of the specific V grooves 3, 3' facing each other among these V grooves 2, 2' are preliminarily made specific for the single core so that these grooves can be discriminated from the other V grooves 2 by coloring, etc. Then the single-core optical fibers can be easily housed into a pair of the specific grooves 3 facing each other and can be thereby positioned. The V-groove bases are also made into the constitution provided with optical fiber guides 4,4' on the optical fiber introducing side of the V groove arrays and are provided with the guides 4,4' in such a manner as to permit the identification of the grooves 3,3' facing each other, then the single-core optical fibers to be connected are easily conducted to the guides 4,4' and are easily conducted into the guides 3,3'.
