CT scanner using X=ray image intensifier - uses video camera equipment to detect absorption pattern and fast Fourier transformation

The scanner uses a 512 x 512 pixel image intensifier to detect the X-ray beam after it passes through the patient. The output of the intensifier (9) is scanned by a TV camera (10), and the camera output (11) is converted (12) to digital form and stored on a 200 MByte magnetic recording disc (14). - A PDP 11-34 computer (13), which has an associated array processor and a fast Fourrier transformer, processes the data to produce an output which is converted (17) to a video signal and displayed on a video monitor (18).
