A process for the preparation of an N-aromatic-N min -acyl urea, which comprises reacting an aromatic nitro compound with a primary or secondary amide and carbon monoxide, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a selected Group VIII metal and a monodentate or bidentate ligand.
