A resilient axle box guide rod bearing has resilient annular discs 47 retained within an eye at the end of the guide rod by dished bearing members 45, 46 sliding concentrically one within the other and serving as a two-piece horizontal axis having the ends 55, 56 secured to the bogie frame in brackets 57, 57' which a necked-down bolt 48 preloads in compression in the transverse horizontal direction. The shape and the material properties of the discs are such that at any preloading the spring rate for compression is greater than the spring rate for shear, the latter spring rate facilitating radial adjustment of the wheel sets. Guidance of the wheel sets supported in such resilient bearings is provided by connection of the axle boxes on each side of the bogie by guide rod & lever systems (Fig. 7, not shown) actuated by relative movement between vehicle body and bogie and also by means of transverse horizontal C-shaped frames extending one each around each wheel set, the frames being rigidly connected to the axle boxes and each having a connecting bracket extending towards the bogie centre, the apexes of which are interconnected- articulated for pivotting about a vertical axis.
