The display unit comprises a front plate carrying a cup-shaped member at the rear which consists of fluorescent plastic and has its edge shaped to represent the image to be displayed and visible at the front. The edge may extend through optionally opaque, front plate or may be secured to the rear surface of a transparent plate. The member may be protected by a transparent cap secured to the rear of plate.
