In a process for the nonlinear equalisation of digital signals, both precursors and postcursors of the pulses to be equalised are estimated at a first time, starting from a pulse sequence, for a nonlinear compensation of the effects due to the pulses. Signals for the correction of the effects of at least the precursor are obtained from the estimated pulses or from the estimated sequence. The correction signals are combined with the pulses to be equalised, delayed by the time necessary for accomplishing the estimate and for the calculation of compensation signals. The process can be used to transmit information at rates faster than Nyquists, using equalisers without feedback loops.
