The appts. for analysis of protein nitrogen by the Kjeldahl method, consists of a chamber housing a vertical tube in which the sample being analysed is digested; a sodium hydroxide feed pipe inside the tube and co-axial with it; a steam generator for driving off the ammonia; a cooler for condensing the ammonia vapour; a photo-electric cell which detects the change in colour of the soln. at the equivalent point and makes automatic analysis possible; a micro-processor which controls the amount of hydrochloric acid consumed in the analysis; and a digital display which indicates this quantity.
