ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREPetroleum resins of lightened color whileretaining satisfactory melting point and compatibilityare provided by a process which comprises heat soaking apetroleum cracking or reforming fraction containingcationically polymerizable hydrocarbons and from 2to more than 0.5 weight percent of cyclodienes untilthe cyclodiene content is no more than 0.5 weight percent,disitilling said heat soaked petroleum fraction andpolymerizing said distilled petroleum fraction in thepresence of a polymerization catalyst.
