ROTATING THIN DISK LAMINAR AND RADIAL FLOW MIXING SYSTEM

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA mixer for mixing a body of receivingliquid with solids, liquids or gases introducedtherein. The mixer includes a rotatable shaft, athin disk-like member mounted for rotation on theshaft, and at least one thin annular ring mounted onthe disk-like member spaced from, parallel to and con-centric with it. The flow of liquid perpendicular tothe annular ring through the inner opening thereof,when the mixer is immersed and rotating in the body ofreceiving liquid, is unimpeded by any structural mem-ber. The annular ring may be mounted on either side ofthe disk, and a plurality of annular rings may beemployed. The annular ring or rings may be mounted onthe disk-like member by at least three elongated supportposts spaced equally around the outer perimeter of thedisk, the transverse cross-section of each post beingcurvilinear, preferably circular, in shape. Themixer is disclosed for use in a tank. The verticalposition of the rotatable disk-like member in thetank produces a flow pattern in the body of receivingliquid that is characteristic of the particular positionselected.
