PORTABLE CHIPPER WITH RELATIVELY LOW POWERHIGH TORQUE TREE FEED MECHANISM FOR FEEDINGTHE TREE OR OTHER PRODUCT TO BE CHIPPEDAT A CONTROLLED FEED ANGLEABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA whole tree feeding and chipping assembly forlongitudinally feeding whole trees with attached limbs andbranches to a chipper wherein the chipper disc is arrangedcrosswisely at an acute angle to the longitudinal pathway offeed, and a feed works is provided for feeding the tree buttfirst to the chipper knives. The feed works includes agenerally vertically disposed, fixed axis side feed roll onone side of the pathway, a generally vertically disposedswing side feed roll on the opposite side of the pathway;and a bottom feed roll disposed crosswisely to the pathwayand defining the lower boundary of the pathway. A partlyconical convergent chute minimizes frictional impedance anda plow is provided for moving debris from the vicinity ofthe feed works. The rolls are driven at coordinated speedsof rotation in a direction to feed the tree into thechipper mouth.
