Process and apparatus for automatically positioning the toe end of a stocking at the open end of an everting tube for sewing purposes

A pair of horizontal finned tubes (10) slides into the legs (3) of a pair of tights up to a predetermined posn. marked on each tube and detected by a photo-electric detector (56). The jaws (52,52') of a pneumatically-operated clamp then, independently, pinch the legs onto the fins of each tube and hold them in posn. for precise cutting of their extremities (31). After cutting, the jaws open to release the tights. Six units of the appts. are arranged on a rotating carousel; each is mounted on a chariot (5) and, in turn, slides forwards on a runner (6) to seize a pair of tights. The movement of the chariot (5) is controlled by a movable switch mounted adjacent to the runner (6). The various operations of the appts., and the cutting, are performed at different stages of the carousel's rotation.
