The homopolymerisation inhibitor is specific for grafting reactions in which a polymeric material activated by the action of ozone or of accelerated electrons is brought into contact with a grafting medium containing at least one monomer. This inhibitor contains two functional groups; one, for example sulphonic or carboxylic, makes it compatible with the grafting medium; the other is a functional group inhibiting radical species by transfer, for example an unsaturated functional group of the allyl or cyclic type. Furthermore, the ability of this inhibitor to diffuse in the grafting medium is much greater than that which it has in the polymeric material. Among the possible inhibitors, those particularly adopted are sodium 2-methyl-2-propenesulphonate, 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylates, sodium 4-(2-methyl-2-propenyl)benzenesulphonate and 4-tert-butylbenzene allyl ether.
