The invention relates to a biogas reactor, which comprises a fermentation unit (1), which has several series connected sections (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) which are separated from each other with walls (16, 17, 18, 19) so that the walls do not have any direct liquid or gas conncection with each other; members (20) for the feeding of the slud­ge to be treated into the fermentation unit; members (10) for removing the formed biogas and residual sludge from each of the sections, as well as one or several heating ducts (12, 13) passing through the fermentation unit, in which the flue gases produced in the burning of biogas are advantageously used as heating medium.
