Shaped articles (1), having a periphery with an unchanging longitudinal profile, are provided with an extruded-on thermoplastic rim (3). A thermoplastic melt extrudate having the cross-section of the rim to be formed is extruded on article periphery with a periphery-hugging tool (4,58) which touches the periphery at a distance from the edge. Relative tool motion w.r.t. periphery corresponds to rim extrusion rate. The apparatus is claimed and contains a channel (8), formed of 2 base-connected shanks (4,5) enclosing an inlet channel (13) and the channel (8).. Article (1) is esp. a plate-shaped heat-exchanger of plastic, e.g. a solar collector.
