Device to increase the heat transfer rate of viscous liquids flowing in heat exchangers

In order to improve the heat transfer coefficient of viscous liquids lubricating oils for transformers or bearings with inferior heat conductivity, flowing in the pipes 1 of heat-exchangers, the pipes are sub-divided into sections by internal baffle elements 2 lying perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the pipe 1. The baffle elements 2 are shaped so that they are able to exchange the laminar boundary layer flowing along the pipewall with the stream flowing in the middle of the pipe 1. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the baffle elements are performing a reciprocating motion parallel with the longitudinal axis of the pipe. IMAGE
