Process for preparing low-phosphorus vanadium compounds from high-phosphorus vanadium slags

Process for preparing low-phosphorus vanadium compounds from high-phosphorus vanadium slags in which the vanadium slags are ground and mixed with roasting additives and the mixture is roasted oxidatively. The roasted materials after cooling are leached with water. The vanadium-containing liquor is separated from the leaching residue and is processed further to produce the vanadium compounds. In order to remove phosphorus the mixture is additionally mixed with a magnesium carrier prior to roasting. During roasting, the phosphorus is bound as a sparingly soluble MgP compound. The MgP compound is removed with the leaching residue.
