Automatic maritime search and rescue radio direction finder

The method for automatic emergency radio direction finding is used for continuously monitoring at least one of the maritime search and rescue frequencies and for automatically triggering a storage process when an emergency call is received. During this process, the bearing signals of the emergency call, detected in accordance with the dual-channel principle, are completely recorded and subsequently evaluated for determining the bearing direction. To record the complete bearing information means that the bearing signal is detected and stored during the entire period of transmission of the emergency call. This has the advantage that the entire transmission can be reproduced again at any time like a stored television transmission. During this process, the best results with respect to direction finding can be selected in each case for the evaluation of the bearing direction. Bearing results which, due to propagation conditions, can be used only incompletely or not at all for evaluation can be disregarded in this method.
