By means of the process, a pulverulent amorphous material can be produced by mechanically alloying at least two pulverulent, initially at least partly crystalline starting components by means of a grinding process to give the powder of the amorphous material. The material to be produced is intended to be a particularly temperature-resistant material. For this purpose, Fe powder and powder of elemental Zr or of a Zr compound or alloy are provided according to the invention as the at least two starting components, the percentage content of the Fe starting component in the amorphous material being more than 40 atom %. Preferably, the content of the Fe starting powder component should be between about 60 atom % and about 80 atom %.
