Underwater brown coal mining plant - uses treatment at cutting point to prevent humin separation, and forms underwater embankment from separated soil

The cutting head is supported so that the exposed edges of underwater seams are cut, and the cut material mixed with water is pumped through vertical pipes to floating platforms. The sediment containing water is separated from the brown coal and the latter is conveyed to a collection point using e.g. pontoons. At the cutting point, the seam is treated to prevent separation of humin. Chalk can be mixed with the cut material as part of the treatment, causing it to flocculate, and the edges of the seams are sprayed with plastics or concrete. Separated solid material is deposited so as to form a sloping underwater embankment. USE/ADVANTAGE - Efficient extraction of brown coal is combined with min. environmetal damage.
