In an appliance for the continuous removal of the top side of a silage fodder bale cut from a mobile silo, with a frame which can be laid onto the top side of the fodder bale and in which movable removing tools and a driving device for the removing tools are arranged, and with a cover skirt held on the frame and covering a front free longitudinal side of the working region of the removing tools, the cover skirt has a front vertical skirt part and an approximately horizontally extending hood part covering the top side of the frame. The hood part is articulated on the frame movable about a horizontal axis. The hood part and the skirt part of the cover skirt are connected to one another via a folding joint.
