In the method according to the invention, it is provided that a data processing system connected via a universal interface as a subscriber station automatically activates the central controller of a switching system following a connection which had been set up between itself and a subscriber station. Data are transmitted to the central controller if a feature activation is intended to be effected since this was identified as necessary on the basis of the data input and data processing which took place during the previous connection.
