In order to be able to design a trunk piston, particularly for internal combustion engines, with an extremely short compression stroke, a gudgeon pin (7) is divided into circumferentially load-bearing surface areas (10) and narrower areas, with faces (9) set back radially in relation to the longitudinal axis of the gudgeon pin (7). By means of this division and of correspondingly designed bearing in the piston (1) with bearing surfaces arranged a distance apart (bearing surface 6 and bearing shells 8), the gudgeon pin (7) can be inserted into its bearing from the underside of the piston (1) and aligned there. The gudgeon pin bearing in the piston is of a design such that the bearing surfaces which transmit the forces resulting from the combustion pressure are larger than those which merely have to accept the inertia forces during the upward stroke of the piston.
