The invention relates to a device for cutting off root swellings on logs, in which the cutting tool is slowly guided around the clamped tree trunk. In this arrangement, the cutting block serving as a cutting tool is mounted pivotably on a swivelling ring and can be pressed against the periphery of the trunk by means of a hydraulically actuated feed mechanism. The cutting block is driven by a stationary drive motor, the driving power of which is transmitted to the cutting block by means of a mechanical transmission. For this purpose, use is made of a transmission shaft which is arranged inside the central bearing of the swivelling ring and is connected to the cutting block via a belt-driven countershaft. The transmission shaft is hollow and, for its part, receives the hydraulic lines for the feed mechanism.
