High loft golf ball for small courses - consists of glass or similar hard core with outer covering of various plastic materials and total weight within specified range
''High-loft'' golf balls are produced. The process uses 40-45 (42-43)mm dia. balls, made entirely of polyurethane, or foamed/ slightly densified polystyrene, thioplastics, silicone rubber or other foam covering 3-20 (5-10) mm thick and a centre core of glass, ceramics or other material to make up the weight to the required level. The balls also contain added metal powders, fine sand, ground glass or other powder or liquid to adjust the weight to 15-30 (20-25)g. ADVANTAGE - The balls concerned have much shorter flights than standard balls. They therefore only need courses which are some 10% of the usual area. They can be used in indoor courses (e.g. 9 holes) and hence enable golf to be played in winter.
