A central heating installation has a heat pump located in the return line of a heating circuit containing a boiler, radiators, circulating pump and temp. sensor. The circuit includes a by-pass controlled by a diverter valve that provides mixing. The system operates with a controller unit that generates a reference dependent upon external temp. that is compared with the sensed temp. Two comparators and an integrator operates with threshold switching stages to control a switching stage. The three outputs are coupled to a switching circuit that provides control of the boiler and heat pump stages to provide operation based upon external condutors and building temp. demand.
