The preferred method uses a photometer in which a light beam passes vertically through the sample and with which a series of measurements are made with various dilutions in which a colour or a turbidity appears or disappears. A range of absorbances is chosen, starting at zero (e.g. the range from 0 to 1.0), and is divided into equal parts, preferably into 2 to 10 equal parts. Successive photometric determinations are carried out of that part of the range of absorbance in which each sample of the set of dilutions falls. The results are given for each sample in the set by using that part in which its absorbance falls. A code with values from 0 to 9 may be used for the parts. IMAGE
