The invention relates to a compact mechanical appliance of a width equal to that of the trench to be made or to be remodelled and having easy access to all places inaccessible to large-size appliances, such as hydraulic shovels or tractors, for example for work on trenches under trees or on soil not to be compacted or in wet places where heavy appliances cannot move, the lightness and the manoeuvrability of the appliance coming into effect. It is put into practice by fitting it on an appliance in the form of a motorised hoeing machine, equipped with conventional cutters, optionally with a wheel which may or may not be driving and guiding, and with a rear runner, these components regulating the level and profile of the work.
