In an optical calculator for determining the Fourier transform of a distribution of values in an at least two-dimensional space, each of these values is associated with a source of light 30+n, 25n; 30-n, 25n in two sets of sources 20+, 20-. The position of the sources of this assembly in a plane panel is defined by the value of the parameters of the associated point in the distribution to be processed. The first source 30+n, 25n is excited only by the positive values of a signal on the carrier to be processed while the second source 30-n is excited as a function of the negative values of this signal. The illumination picked up at each point of the screen is composed of the superposition of a useful component corresponding to the Fourier transform sought and of a parasitic component whose value does not depend on the position of the point on the screen and which is practically unvarying in time.
