Pull tabs for easy open containers have rivet holes 30 with not less than eight, nor more than ten sides. A point between any two flats of the rivet hole is preferably aligned with the pull tab nose. The pull tabs are stamped out from flat metal stock material, the tabs being connected in the intermediate stages to the stock by a pair of carrier lugs at the end of the pull ring furthest from the nose portion (Figure 5). The pull tab is affixed to a container end panel by passing a cylindrical shaped rivet formed in the end panel through the rivet hole and then crimping the rivet so that it expands outwardly and engages the flat sides of the octagonal hole.
