MEASURING METHOD FOR BURYING DEPTH OF SUBMARINE CABLE

PURPOSE:To accurately detect the burying depth of a submarine cable by measuring the height-directional temperature distribution of a plow and then finding the burying depth of the submarine cable from a change point where the temperature varies more than the temperature distribution of sea water at the position. CONSTITUTION:A burying machine 3 is installed on the bottom surface 6 of the sea and the burying machine 3 is towed by a laying ship 5 floating on the sea surface 9 to begin to bury the submarine cable. At this time, frictional heat is generated between the sea bottom 6' and plow 4 and detected by a temperature sensor 1, whose output and input vary to cause a rise in temperature. No output, however, is generated by a sensor 1 stored at the part of the plow 4 which does not penetrates the sea bottom 6'. When the plow 4 which penetrates the sea bottom 6' is positioned on the seal bottom surface 6, the sensor is released from being affected by the frictional heat and its output varies immediately to cause a drop in temperature. The temperature rises in the reverse case, and consequently the output of the sensor 1 is sent to an on-ship device 8 at the time of the burying of the submarine cable by a control cable 7 put in a towing rope to monitor the state of output variation, thereby finding the burying depth of the submarine cable.
