PURPOSE:To accurately measure a posture angle in real time by a simple means, on the assumption that the posture angle of a simple polygonal object based on a rectangle is measured. CONSTITUTION:The two-dimensional figure pattern obtained by a pattern input apparatus is converted to a binarized matrix pattern and pattern conversion for respectively converting the mutually adjacent n X n mesh point on said matrix pattern to a necessary number of direction codes, based on to which direction the boundary line of the solid part and empty part of a figure is pointed, is performed. The number of these direction codes are counted to measure the posture angle of an object to be confirmed on the basis of the ratio of the number of the direction codes of oblique components to the total number of the direction codes.
