UNDIRECTIONAL SOLIDIFYING FURNACE BY TEMPERATURE GRADIENT FURNACE

PURPOSE:To prevent drop of the temp. in the high-temp. part of a temp. gradient furnace as the furnace body moves and to permit growth of a high-quality crystal at the time of executing the crystal growth in the above-mentioned furnace by providing a stationary electric furnace to the high temp. side of a cartridge holding a sample therein. CONSTITUTION:The unidirectionally solidifying furnace consisting of the above- mentioned temp. gradient furnace has the following constitution: This temp. gradient furnace consists of the moving type electric furnace having a low temp. part 5, a cooling part 6 and a high temp. part 7 arrayed in a horizontal direction and movable in a horizontal direction, the cartridge 4 holding the horizontally long sample 1 therein, and a container 9 enclosing the moving type electric furnace and the cartridge 4 and is so constituted as to solidify the sample 1 from one direction by positioning the sample 1 to the high temp. part 7 of the moving type electric furnace and heating the sample to melt the same, when moving the moving type electric furnace to the high temp. side while maintaining the temp. gradient. The stationary electric furnace 8 is provided near the high temp. side of the cartridge 4.
