PURPOSE:To efficiently carry out reducing dimerization through dehalogenation, by reacting an allyl halide, benzyl halide or a derivative thereof with a lead compound or a metal having higher inonization tendency than lead in a polar solvent containing or not containing water. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by formula I [R1-R3 are H, alkyl, alicyclic group, unsaturated hydrocarbon group, aryl or heterocyclic group; R4 is H or R3 and R4 form (CH2)2 (n is 2-13); X is Cl, Br or I], a compound shown by formula II (R5 is H, alkyl, alicyclic group, unsaturated hydrocarbon group or aryl; R6 is aryl) or a derivative thereof is reacted with a lead compound (preferably lead bromide or lead chloride) or a metal (preferably Al) having higher ionization tendency than lead in a polar solvent (e.g. DMF or THF) containing or not containing water at room temperature-70 deg.C for about 48hr to carry out reducing dimerization through dehalogenation. The reaction product is useful as an intermediate for producing drugs and agricultural chemicals.
